The artist’s comments on this quilt
This spectacular house was particularly delightful for me to recreate in fabric because of the family members that surround it. For obvious reasons of privacy, I have blurred all the images of the family members and have not disclosed the location of the house. Still, having the images of the parents, children and grandchildren who had spent part or all of their lives in these beautiful surroundings made the house come alive for me. As I worked on the quilt top, the house truly became a home in my mind -- thus the name of the quilt. The level of detail that I put into this house is what makes it a great quilt -- even the flowerpots on the front steps have been included. The picture was taken in late autumn but the client wanted fall colors to abound -- one of the great things about making a picture into a quilt is the ability to tweak what's really there to make the picture perfect. I have to share credit for the quilt's design with the client. She chose the colors for the borders knowing they were favorites of the quilt's owners-to-be. She knew from the beginning that she wanted the house in the middle of the quilt, surrounded by black and white photos. I enjoyed bringing her vision to life. It was a very thoughtful and sophisticated Christmas gift from her to the lucky family depicted in the quilt. From all reports, they were delighted to receive it.
