The artist’s comments on this quilt

This historic town in New Hampshire is just so picturesque with its backdrop of mountains, quaint buildings and a beautiful landscape surrounding them.   I didn't include the client's photo because it didn't reproduce well on screen, but this is a view that anyone who goes to Harrisville can capture on film.  Although the picture was taken in winter, the quilt was done with fall foliage and colors.  This is a great example of how I can use a photo as a basis for a quilt but change the image substantially if the client requests me to do so.  I don't always include a border around my landscape quilts, but because this quilt would hang above the client's couch I felt it would look better in a "frame" which I think the border provides.  I used the same fabrics in the border as I did in some of the leaves on the trees and alternated them with a pretty fall leaf fabric that had a steel blue color in it to match a valance in her room.  I especially love the fabric I found for the water because it gives the impression of a reflection in the water -- I waited an extra week to begin work on the quilt just so I could have that fabric delivered, but I think it was worth the wait.
